Kitchen Nook After

BEFORE: The décor and furnishings in this kitchen dining nook have a definite country flavor that lacks universal appeal. Dark blue wallpaper makes the space appear smaller than it really is, and heavy curtains block both the light and the view outside.

AFTER: Country-style furnishings have been replaced with a round glass-top table and chairs more proportionate to the space. Cream-colored walls brighten up this kitchen nook considerably. The rug was removed to reveal hardwood floors, and an updated light fixture replaces the tin candelabra. This kind of work should be done by a professional, like https://kalahari-electrical.com/lawrenceville/ for instance. Removing the window grilles and changing the valances allows light to come in and accentuates the beautiful view. For a pop of color, a vase of red flowers adorns the table.

Honestly, I am so happy with how this kitchen remodel turned out. Although, for me, I think the lighting is probably the biggest change. Whereas before the space looked dark and uninviting, the new light that has been installed has made a huge difference. Above all, this just goes to show how important choosing the best possible lighting for your home can be.

That being said, it is no secret that there are so many different lighting options out there nowadays that it can be easy to become overwhelmed. However, if you are thinking about upgrading the lighting in your home, reaching out to an electrician can help you to work out the best possible lighting set up for your space. A cozy reading area has been created giving this room renewed purpose more appropriate for a room with built-in bookcases. The faded blue carpet was replaced with a patterned carpet adding interest to the small space. The walls and wood trim were painted light sage and ivory for an up-to-date look. A new chandelier helps draw attention to the high ceilings. Vintage family photos are packed away, and a large framed print gives the room a focal point.

Removing the area rug from under the table and re-arranging the chairs gives the appearance of more space to move through the dining room and into the kitchen.  Counter clutter has been cleared except for a few necessities, and the cabinet top decor has been minimized for a cleaner look.

Dining Room After

BEFORE:  The unique built-in cabinet and shelves were lost in a gallery of children’s artwork displayed across the wall of this dining room which does double-duty as a play area.

AFTER:  Removing the extensions from the table and positioning it away from the wall at an angle makes it feel more spacious and functional. The child’s drawings and photos were replaced with a simple print that coordinates with the drapes and sliding doors leading out to the deck. A few colorful vases placed on the top shelf of the built-in cabinet draws attention to that feature. The child’s drawing desk was removed from the corner to further open up the space.
